Winchcombe Potters on Film, September 12 at 7.30pm

A triple bill of archive footage presented by the Edgeler Collection as part of the Winchcombe Pottery centernary celebrations

  • One Good Turn British Pathe 1930. A classic Pathé short showing tantalising glimpses of the production process at Winchcombe Pottery in 1930. A  rare insight into working life at the fledgling pottery. Running time 4 mins
  • Mud and Water Man  Alister Hallum 1973. From the 1940s to the 1960s, Michael Cardew worked mostly in Africa, first in Ghana and then Nigeria. Filmed during a return visit to Nigeria and narrated by Michael Cardew, he looks back over his early career and the ventures in Ghana and Nigeria with interesting insights into the problematic realities of colonialism. Running time 50 minutes.
  • From the Clay  Bill Barton 1982. A unique look at every aspect of production at the thriving pottery of ’82. Donated in memory of Bill by his family to Winchcombe Museum, it has been playing as part of the centenary exhibition Sharing the Craft. The pottery team featured are: Ray and Mike Finch, Eddie Hopkins, Toff Milway, Bob Wilkins, Duncan Shaw, Jane Brooks, Sid Tustin. The shop lady is Muriel Finch (Ray’s wife) and the customers are Sylvia and Ruth Barton. Running time 30 minutes.

Tickets: £15 standard £10 under-26; £3 off for Isbourne Arts members
