You might say that fete brought them together….
A new play from Pipeline Theatre presents George and Maddy – a pair of wise-cracking oddballs – set in that bastion of Englishness, a St John’s Ambulance Gazebo in a village fete. So far so village fete.
But in a ‘twist of fete’, they are asked to share their gazebo with Elias who has achieved minor fame as Eliana Sultana, a drag queen, and who’s now turning their tent into a dressing room. Their stories entwine with explosive results. And in the middle of all this, there’s a biscuit baking contest.
With three actors, a transmogrifying set and Pipeline Theatre’s trademark immersive soundscape, this show will take you on a provocative, darkly funny, but ultimately life-affirming theatrical journey. Trigger warning: contains scenes of empathy and mutual understanding.
And we’re turning Isbourne Arts into the ultimate summer fete for the evening and that’s where we go full bake off.
This moving and darkly funny play is already winning rave reviews. It’s coming to Isbourne Arts on October 8 and to celebrate, we’ll be turning the Izzy into the last (almost) summer fete of the year. The bunting will be up, the tombola will be out and there’s a baking contest for audience members to take part in as the show doesn’t stop with the interval.
If you’ve got a ticket for George and the Drag Queen then you’re invited to enter our biscuit baking contest. Just bring along one plate of your creations, pop it on the biscuit table and the stars of the show will be judging it in the interval. George is very serious about biscuits, Eliana is happy with shop bought cookies covered in cling film. The decision on what to create is yours. As you grab your interval drink, the judging takes place and if you win, you do have to wear your prize, a rosette, all the way through the second half. There’s only one rule – you have to have a ticket for the show to enter.
