Angels in Art: November 30 at 3pm

Angels are everywhere at Christmas: we sing of them in carols, send cards showing them in glory and even put them on top of our trees. For centuries, artists have put them at the centre of paintings and sculpted them into vivid reality to create some of the most beautiful and celebrated images in history. But why are angels so important in art?

This special event, hosted by local artist Barbara Curry, looks at the role that angels have in our culture, especially at Christmas.

When and where did artists first start painting and sculpting winged deities and messengers?  Why did early Christian angels have no wings? And why were they all men to begin with?

Join us at the Izzy on November 30 for this fascinating talk. Donations on the door (£5 suggested) with tea, coffee and mince pies to follow.

Angels in Art starts at 3pm. Doors open at 2.30pm.
